The Lethbridge Gallery has established a strong reputation for exhibiting works demonstrating exceptional detail and creativity. With the intention of fostering the next generation of artists, Lethbridge Gallery initiated the Lethbridge 10000.

Now in its eighth year, this exciting art competition is open to national and international artists for small-scale artworks. Entrants may submit paintings, drawings, photographs and all 2D artworks up to 61cm (24 inches) in height or width. The Judging is based on three equally evaluated criteria of creativity, originality and skill with the winner receiving $10 000 prize money.

We are pleased to announce the Art Shed Brisbane is continuing their support this year by sponsoring  the Commended Prizes. This will comprise of five $300 vouchers for art materials at the Art Shed Brisbane.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  1. The entry must be the original work of the artist.
  2. There is no limit to the number of entries an artist can submit. A separate entry form and application fee must accompany each entry.
  3. Entries must be submitted via online entry only. Entrants will be asked for the artists' details, image details, an optional 40 word statement about the work and a JPEG image of the work (files should be 72dpi, no larger than 800 .x 800px and not exceed 1MB). A non-refundable $46 entry fee (incl GST), or $25 entry fee (incl GST) for full -time tertiary students, must also be paid either online using a credit card, direct deposit or by posting a cheque/money order to PO Box 500, Paddington, Qld 4064 (made payable to the Lethbridge Gallery Trust). Entries will not be accepted until entry fee has been received. Receipts will be issued upon request.
  4. Entries must be received before midnight Friday 28 April 2017.
  5. The competition is open to all forms of 2D artwork including, but not limited to, all paint mediums, drawings, works on paper and photography.
  6. The size of the work must not exceed 61cm (24inches) in height or width, not including frame (which must be of a narrow width). Entries may not be hung if the framing is deemed to be excessive.
  7. Multi-panel pieces are accepted and regarded as one work but must not exceed 61cm total. Clear instructions must be provided for installation if selected.
  8. l entries must be for sale and the Lethbridge Gallery Trust will retain a 40% commission in the event of the work being sold.
  9. Artists permanently represented by Lethbridge Gallery are not eligible for the prize, however they are eligible to be part of the finalists exhibition.

JUDGING AND EXHIBITION CRITERIA

  1. There will be two rounds of judging. In the first round of pre-selection, the judges will select finalist works for exhibition from the images provided and finalists shall be notified by Monday 15 May 2017.
  2. Artworks selected for exhibition will be required to be delivered to Lethbridge Gallery, 136 Latrobe Terrace, Paddington, Qld 4064 between 10am–4pm on Monday 29 May – Saturday 3 June 2017 at the artists’ expense.
  3. Entries must be suitably framed for hanging and must have ‘D’ rings and hanging wire. This includes works on paper as no artworks will be pinned to walls. A stretched canvas is considered framed. Please note that wet paintings will not be accepted.
  4. Entries must be clearly labelled on the back with:
    • artist’s name
    • address
    • phone number
    • title of work
    • year of completion
    • medium
    • price
  5. Finalists’ artworks must be available for the duration of the exhibition
    9 - 18 June 2017.
  6. Reasonable care will be taken by the gallery in handling the artwork however neither the trust nor the gallery will be responsible for any loss or damage whatsoever caused to any work while in its custody. Insurance for the artwork during the exhibition and in transit remains the responsibility of the artist.
  7. Finalist works will be judged by a panel of judges from the Lethbridge Gallery Trust including an established and practicing artist and gallery director. Judging criteria is based on three equally evaluated criteria of technical skill, originality and creativity. The judges’ decision will be final and no negotiation will be entered into.
  8. The winners of the $10,000 first prize and commended awards will be announced at the official opening on Saturday 10 June 2017.
  9. The winning work of the $10,000 prize will be acquired by the Lethbridge Gallery Trust.
  10. The exhibition will be open during regular gallery hours from 9 - 18 June 2017.
  11. By entering, the artist consents to images of their work being reproduced and their biographical information used for the purposes of advertising and publicising the exhibition and for catalogue production.
  12. At the conclusion of the exhibition all unsold works must be collected from Lethbridge Gallery, 136 Latrobe Terrace, Paddington, Qld between 22 - 23 June 2017 during gallery hours. Works from interstate and overseas will be repacked and dispatched as soon as possible after the close of the exhibition if appropriate arrangements have been made by the artist at their expense.
  13. Any works not collected within the time specified will be stored at Lethbridge Gallery and in the absence of appropriate arrangements at the expiry of a further one month will be deemed to be the property of Lethbridge Gallery and may be sold or otherwise disposed of by the trust at their discretion.
  14. Payment to artists for sold works will be processed within one month of the closure of the exhibition.
