About the Artist

A Brief History

Stephen Johnston’s work explores the relationship between everyday objects and the figure. He does this by juxtaposing the figure, inanimate objects and different surrounding contexts. Johnston’s body of work is a continual experimentation of this concept, putting the focus back onto things that might ordinarily have been overlooked.
Johnston was Born in 1987 in Co. Down Northern Ireland. He graduated with a BA in Fine and Applied Arts at the University of ULster in Belfast.
As well as having had his work in the Saatchi gallery, he has won numerous awards including the The De Veres Art Award- For work of Distinction at the RHA (182nd Annual Exhibition) and the Towry Award for best from Northern Ireland at the National Open Art competition last year.
This young exciting emerging artist is quickly establishing himself having work in private and public collections around the UK.
